Just in case you are wondering who David is...
Looking everywhere for David. Where can he be?
Happy to be at school. :)
We can build or make a pattern with linking cubes.
Learning how to use linking cubes.
Counting to 100!!
This is how we walk in the hallways.
This is how we enter the media center.
Wow!! We had such an amazing first day. Everything was perfect. We started the day by drawing a picture of what we did over the summer and shared our pictures with our new friends.

Both classes joined to read the story David Goes to School by David Shannon. This book helped us learn the rules at school. We learned the rules for the media center, walking to the office, playground, hallways, and cafeteria. We went on a tour of the school and looked for David (stuffed animal). We had so much fun looking for David. Our classes ended the tour with a juice box and cookie for following the rules and not acting like David.
In writer's workshop we are working on adding details to our pictures. We heard the story What I Like About Me and drew a self portrait. In skills block, we sang songs to learn our alphabet and letter sounds. In math workshop, we explored how to use linking cubes and charted our answers on chart paper. We sang math songs and learned how to use a calendar. In our unit study, we talked about what school is and why we go. We also heard the story First Day Jitters which helps students to see that the teacher feels just as nervous as they do when they meet new people.
Enjoy the pictures! What was your child's favorite part of their first day of school?

.... so that is David :-) I asked Michael what he did today and he said he learned about his new school and they looked for David because he was a bad boy ... I truly appreciate your blogs so I can be where my son was and understand his world. Thank you! he loves his school, teachers and new friends... Michael's mommy
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny!! We figured we should mention who David is. :) It is one of the best books to explain why we have rules at school.
ReplyDeleteNoah's favorite part was looking for David. He had a lot to say about it. Was he in the classroom? "the c-l-a-s-s-r-o-o-m"
ReplyDeleteLOVING this blog. It makes (crazy) moms like me feel SO connected. It helps me to understand what he's talking about day to day. Keep the pictures comin! :)
Thanks for giving my Favorite Son his best very 1st day of school. <3
Well we are super happy that we already have parents looking at our blog. We love to share these special moments we get with your little ones. We will update as much as we can. Glad Noah and Michael had a great day. :)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you explained David! LOL! Illias broke down the ENTIRE David evolution and I thought, "what is he talking about?" After reading your blog I had to call my husband bc we were both SO confused last night! Thank you so much for sharing the pictures and the stories. It truly means a lot to us. (And also makes it easier for us to understand what Illias is talking about :)
ReplyDeleteIllias told us that his favorite parts about his first day were how nice his teachers were to him, how he got to switch classes, read books, and play all day. He also loved his snacks. He came home so excited and so wired if I didn’t know any better I would’ve sworn you ladies gave him red bull ;) Thank you both for everything.
